Why not go out with a bang for the last of my stints on the May design team and have an exploding box?
I used the Butterfly Basics stamp set to death on this one as a last hurrah to it. I love it though and it won't be the last time I use it, we have become great friends through this challenge. I think there was just a happy birthday stamp and the large flower which didn't get to feature in this design so I was quite chuffed with myself that I crammed so many of the stamps in.
The idea was to create something quite bland and uninteresting on the outside with the Crumb Cake box and Basic Gray stamping using the hatched line stamp to create an old airmail feel about it. Then on the inside to have a totally tropical colour riot going on which was inspired by the sentiment stamped onto the candle which reads "There is nothing about the caterpillar which tells you it is going to be a butterfly". So going with that 'don't judge a book by its cover' theme the drab exterior kept a dazzling sparkling secret inside.
I wasn't sure if I should go with this design or not as it was so hard to photograph to do it justice, in person it's absolutely gorgeous and is now settled on my low bookcase as a decorative feature. The glimmer paper butterflies keep on catching the sunlight and sparkling it back to me.
There's a PDF to download here of how it was made and I will get around to making some videos soon. At the minute I'm focused on opening my shop and it's behind schedule and taking up all of my time but my Stampin' Up! online store is open so if you want to buy any of the materials used in making this gorgeous little surprise then go ahead and click below.
I've really enjoyed this challenge and have created a couple more designs for it which were left on the cutting room floor but I've written a blog post about them and the whole experience of being involved in the challenge. So go and check that out for more ideas on how to use this cutest of cute stamp sets.
