Huge Triangle Cat Box

July 29, 2017

I had to make a cute gift box for a rather long amigurumi cat I'd been commissioned to make. Would you believe this one is 12 inches long and each of the triangular sides measures 5 inches? It's a whopper by any hand made gift box maker's standards! The cat by the way can be ordered for the standard £20 for a medium sized amigurumi project with a customised gift box like this one. Available in a range of colours to suit your feline tastes.

The cat pattern is my own made up after seeing similiar cats online on various blogs and boards which makes it difficult to credit any one particular person for the inspiration so I'd like to thank anyone who made a cat amigurumi project which inspired me or someone else who inspired me.

I used an A3 sheet of heavy craft card for the main body of the box, making  a triangular insert to glue into the bottom and a similar one to use as a lid for the top. I couldn't waste any of the 12 inches of length on folding down for the ends as I wanted to cat to stand up in the box, hence my coming up with the lid and inverted lid idea.

For this box I hand stamped some DSP using the gorgeous Hello Kitty stamp set from Stampin' Up! I stamped onto Whisper White cardstock using a few of the images in Basic Gray, then switched to Flirty Flamingo for the Happy Birthday from the Better Together set. (I LOVE the Better Together set, it's so versatile and has nice bold sentiments without them being too huge that they don't fit into any of the punches or dies).

For some reason I continued with Flirty Flamingo for the final kitty image (mistake or design? Who cares?!) and then I used a few random inks and an aqua brush to add more colour to the stamped images. I used some of the Basic Gray and Flirty Flamingo, but added in some Wisteria Wonder and a little of the retired Cucumber Crush too and used Peekaboo Peach on the plant pots.

I finished off by attaching a gift tag made using stitched edge framelits sandwiched with dimensionals to the lid using a little retired cucumber crush thick bakers twine.

It was received with much enthusiasm and love and I'm hopeful that the recipient is going to love it... not just the box, but what is inside too!

I bought my A3 kraft card on Amazon - and for the Kitty itself I used yarns from the Stylecraft Special DK range which is available at the lovely Bella Coco store online.

Thanks as always for dropping in.
